The best way to send your demo

Getting a recording deal or signing one of your tracks to a label is not an easy thing to achieve . It takes a lot of hard work , to work on a track , and then send it off to label only for it to be put into the bottom of the file or simply just ignored in an email .

Nowadays it’s not just about the quality of music that your producing, it’s also about your approach to the label and/or A & R manager in hoping to getting a track/s signed .

I have collaborated a few tips that can better help you in the path to getting your tracks signed or at the very least help you to get your tracks heard.

MASTER YOUR TRACK/S

You want the best version of your track to be heard by the label manager . For a short fee , get your tracks mastered that way when the label manager hears it , he/she is hearing the final and best version of the track/s.

FIND LABELS

Take some time and scour the internet for demo emails from labels that best suit your genre. Find their websites and/or facebook pages and checkout their email addresses specifically for demos . Create a list and keep it with you for future reference .

ADDRESS THE EMAIL TO THE INDIVIDUAL

If you’re planning on emailing your track to a label , always address the email to the individual or label . For example if your emailing Mark from Beats Records , start your email with ‘Hi Mark ‘ or ‘Hi A & R manager of Beats Records’ . Its a personal touch that shows you really care about the label and the respect that you are giving them rather than sending out hundreds of emails and simply starting an email with ‘Hi’ and CC’ing all the individuals. Label managers know this and if you send an email directed to them specifically its more likely to be heard.

DONT CC HUNDREDS OF LABELS

When you’re sending emails to different labels, dont write the same email to each and CC all the labels. Firstly because labels can see that you have CC’ed the emails (labels tend to prefer tracks that havent been sent out to hundreds of labels) and secondly you will lose that ‘personal touch’ as mentioned in previous statements.

ADD SOCIAL MEDIA LINKS

At the end of your email don’t forget to add all your social media and website links. At the very least you should have a facebook artist page and a soundcloud page. If you don’t already, sign up and create them.

DON’T BE IN A RUSH

If after a short period you get an offer for your track/s , don’t be in a rush and quickly accept their offer . Because there is a chance that another , more well established label , could also send you an offer a few days later. So don’t rush into anything , instead take your time and see if any ‘bigger fish’ bite BUT don’t keep labels waiting for too long either .

BE NICE

There’s nothing worse than rejection. And when you get an email from a label informing you that they are not interested in your track, it’s pretty gut wrenching . But nonetheless , the label has taken the time to listen to your track and to reply to your email . You should always show professionalism and be polite, reply to them and thanking them for taking the time to listen to your track/s and for their reply. This can go a long way

I hope these tips can you help you out in your musical endeavours. I want to wish you all , the best of luck on your musical journey .

all the best
