What I'm watching - January 2021

Greetings one and all and a Happy New Year to you . Like allot of you , I too had binge watched allot of TV during the holiday period . I’ve noticed from my blog stats that allot of you have taken an interest in my ‘what I’m watching ‘ blog series and so I’ve ‘upgraded’ it a bit some trailers of what I have been watching , that way you can check them out before watching .

I’m a sucker for ‘end of the world’ type movies along the lines of 2021, Independence Day etc… (Basically anything Roland Emmerich directs ;) , cut to GREENLAND. When I saw the trailer I was like ‘hell yeah , more end of the world business’ and yet I was pleasantly surprised that this film was truly awesome and nothing like the normal run of the mill ‘disaster style' flick’ . Not because of the action of the spectacle but because of the story and acting . Gerard Butler puts on a damn fine performance and this film will keep you on the edge of your set till the end credits

TENET was a film that I was so hyped for and when I eventually saw it I was like ‘Eh , WTF happened ?’ . Its a great film (I think) but I think I only understood about 60% percent of it and I most definitely need to see it again to actually understand WTF is going on . If you’re going to watch it I recommend you watch it with subtitles on cos the sound editing is horrible , music gets really loud during important dialogue scenes and you cant hear the dialogue that well .

Since I’ve gotten back into THE WALKING DEAD , I binged the last two seasons (9 & 10) and damn what a good show . It really has evolved into a truly great show , if you can get through the middle few seasons , the last couple have truly upped their game . Great story telling and great introduction of new characters .

STAR TREK DISCOVERY is now at episode 12 , and what a disappointment this season has become , only the last 2 episodes have seemed interesting but I don’t think its enough to salvage this season for this show. I’m gana hold out till the end of the season , but I don’t see it getting any better .

The first season of THE MADALORION was truly kick ass . A western set in the Star Wars universe , instead its better than other Star Wars film to date. I cleared the whole 2nd season in 2 days and what a fantastic show it was. Bigger , better and louder than the first season . I highly recommend watching it now cos there are plenty of spoilers floating around the internet .

WONDER WOMAN 1984 was a little of a mixed bag . The cast is amazing , I could watch Gal Gadot and Pedro Pascal for hours , and they truly carry the film . That’s not saying it was bad , I enjoyed the story and the action sequences were pretty kick ass but I did find the film a little too long and the last action sequence was disappointing. Overall was pretty good and enjoyable , albeit not as good as the first one

I was reading allot online about ANOTHER ROUND and how good Mads Mikelson’s acting is in this film so I decided to give it a watch . Its a Danish independent film (I love foreign cinema) that follows a group of middle aged friends with their relationship to drinking . It was such an amazing film and loved every minute of it . Mads Mikelson does truly give a power house performance , especially the last scene of the film . If you’re looking for something that has a little ‘taste’ in the cinema department , I highly recommend this.

Once every so often I’ll put on SCHINDLERS LIST . What a cinema masterpiece . Those last 10 minutes always make me cry like a baby.

I saved the best for last . I cannot tell you just how good ALICE IN BORDERLAND is . This is by far one of the best, if not THE best , series I’ve ever watched. I was so addicted to it . I cannot recommend it more for you stop what ever you are watching and put this show on and binge the shit out of it . I haven’t been this excited about a series since Game of Thrones.
