10 ways to keep busy during the Corona-virus lock down

With the corona-virus now been officially labeled as a global pandemic , each countries’ government are now taking the necessary measures to combat and control the spread of the disease . Majority of the worlds countries have enforced ‘social distancing’ causing social gatherings to be cancelled as well as businesses to temporarily close.

That means a lot of us are now being barred up into our homes for the next couple weeks. Here’s a list of which I think are the best ways to keep busy & mentally active during this lock down period (this list is mainly aimed at artists/DJs and /or producers.

1.FINISH TRACKS

Go back into your projects that you didn’t get to finish, that you may have been working on in the past, and now that you have the time , complete those tracks that were half finished.

2. SORT OUT SAMPLES

We all hate doing this but it really does help with future projects by sorting and categorizing your samples . It can save you valuable time and make producing allot smoother and easier in future tracks.

3. MAKE LISTS OF YOUR FAVORITE PRESETS

This is something I personally do on a regular basis. Go through each preset on every VST you have and write down in a journal or make a physical list of what presets you like or would like to use in the future. Arturia VSTs have an ‘favorite’ function , whereby you can add any preset to a ‘favorite’ list which can be seen and accessed from the presets available in their VSTs

4. BACK UP

There’s nothing worse than the feeling of loosing lost data due to a corrupt hard drive or a power surge frying your motherboard. Always make back ups , regularly, onto an external hard disk or into the ‘cloud’ .

5. GET SOCIAL

As we have seen in Italy , as they have been one of the top countries to be hit the hardest with the corona-virus , DJs are performing on balconies, doing live streams etc . This is a the best possible way to connect with people , seeing that everyone is locked away at home . If you’re a DJ , do a Facebook live stream or stream on Twitch . If you don’t have a twitch account , now you have the time to sign up and start streaming to a huge audience. We are all missing human connection and this is where social media can come into play to help us stay in touch and get through this difficult time.

6. GET MOTIVATED

If you simply are just not in the mood and are feeling the constraints of being confided to your home , try motivating yourself by either reading a book or watching an inspiring movie or series. You can stay active by doing home workouts , there are loads of different workout activities you can do from home (check on YouTube for some ideas).

7. START NEW

You can try starting new projects or start writing new music. If you are living alone now that you have time, to have peace and quite, to help you focus on writing new music .

8. UPDATE

Go back to your website or Facebook page and update your biography . Even update them with new pictures or even a new design template . Make sure all your social media links are correct and updated.

9. NEW MUSIC

With Spotify being on the rise and being used by the majority of the planet, perhaps go through some music and listen to tracks to help get you through this difficult time . You can even create playlists and share them with your friends . This is a great idea to share your personal favorite tracks with the rest of the world.

10. LEARN

With the internet being what it is , having an abundance of information , try updating your production skills. If there’s a certain production method that you have being struggling with , go on YouTube and find a tutorial on it . Even perhaps learning how to create music in a completely different genre of what you’re used to

I hope this list helps you all out during this difficult time. I wish you all the best during this time , may God protect you all and your loved ones . Please stay safe and I know we will get through this together .

one love
